A lively bar in Benidorm is facing backlash online after it posted a video of its drinking game. Brits buying booze receive a hard slap across their face when they take a shot, which many have accused of “promoting violence”. The Wild Duck bar offers a ‘Slap Shot’ experience, posting footage of a group of 15 Brits taking part. The video shows a party of men taking turns to sit down on a chair, quickly downing a shot before having water chucked in their face, followed by a slap from one of the bar’s workers.

Onlookers stand around watch, laughing and applauding as their friend receives a blow to the face. The establishment posted a compilation of ‘slaps’ onto their social media accounts, however, the video was met with concern from viewers. People on Facebook branded the game as “promoting and normalising violence”, while others said they would avoid visiting the bar.

Wild Duck has since hit back at those criticising the stunt , claiming that everyone in the video who was slapped paid £4 to take part.

The bar added that it was “light-hearted fun” delivered with “no malice intended”, adding that they advertise the service clearly for those who wish to pay to do so.

A spokesperson for the bar told the MailOnline that the idea for the game was sparked following a viral online video which was shared in their staff group chat.

The stunt has now gone on to become a “guest favourite”, with many choosing to go there based on the service.

Despite the fun intentions, viewers of Wild Duck’s online video highlighted the severe consequences that the game could result in. “Until someone receives a trauma to their brain, neck and spine. What a stupid drink to optionally serve here,” one user commented.

A second baffled Brit said: “Honestly why would you promote this sort of behaviour, you idiots. It puts me right off your bar.”

Another person posted in the comments, labelling the ‘Slap Shot’ as “idiotic, moronic, stupidity at its finest”. They added that the experience is “normalising violent behaviour”.

Despite the criticism, some viewers watched the footage and said it has encouraged them to attend the bar when they are next at the Spanish resort. “I’m gonna have a couple when I get there,” one user wrote, as another commented: “You are doing it next time we’re there. Can’t wait to watch.”

A spokesperson for Wild Duck said: “The Slap Shot has become a hugely popular and iconic part of The Wild Duck experience.

“We always ensure that participants fully understand what the Slap Shot involves, and they are given the choice of a soft or harder slap.”
