A plane crash has resulted in three fatalities after an aircraft plummeted from the sky into a river last night, it has been confirmed. A small airplane tragically crashed into a river in eastern Nebraska, in the United States, according to authorities. The aircraft was journeying along the Platte River when it crashed into the water south of Fremont at 8:15pm, Sgt. Brie Frank of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office announced during a press conference.

The bodies of three individuals were recovered, Frank confirmed. The authorities have not immediately disclosed the identities of the deceased. The sheriff’s office stated that the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will supervise the investigation near Fremont, approximately 37 miles west of Omaha, reports The Mirror.

This latest aviation disaster follows a recent series of plane and helicopter crashes in the US in recent months. This includes a collision between an American Airlines passenger plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, DC in January.

In that incident, 67 people lost their lives, including three military personnel on board the helicopter, after the aircraft plunged into the freezing Potomac River following the collision. It was the deadliest incident involving an aircraft in the US since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
