FISHERS, Ind. (TCN) — Police recently arrested a 24-year-old memorial employee on suspicion of digging up a grave to steal a ring he planned to pawn.
According to the Fishers Police Department, on the night of May 12, an officer patrolled the area of Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens and noticed a suspicious unoccupied vehicle. The officer also reportedly saw a shotgun and paraphernalia.
As the law enforcement official went to investigate further, police said the owner of the car, Seth Davidson, came out from a nearby wooded area “covered in dirt from head to toe.”
Davidson reportedly said he worked for Oak Law Memorial Gardens and had recently buried an urn that had a gold ring. Per police, Davidson “confessed that he couldn’t stop thinking about the ring, prompting him to dig it up to pawn it.”
When Davidson noticed officers approaching his car, he allegedly placed the ring behind a dumpster to conceal it. He reportedly led authorities to the ring and the grave.
Police arrested Davidson on multiple charges, including felony theft, cemetery mischief, criminal trespass, and disturbing ground for artifacts from a grave.
Oak Lawn confirmed with law enforcement that Davidson was an employee. Staff searched the cemetery and reportedly believe “this was the only gravesite that was disturbed,” and the family of the deceased has been notified of the incident.
